Cherry Writing Table
Posted on August 22, 2005

This piece was commissioned by a client to meet a very specific need.  He had a room that he was adding some bookcases and needed an occasional work area.  I was very fortunate to be given creative freedom to design this delicate writing table. This was the first piece to use some of the techniques learned at Rosewood Studio.  For the construction of the table,  I used dowels to attach the apron detail and the top to the apron assembly. The apron and drawer fronts are curly maple and the remainder is cherry.  The top is shop sawn veneers that have been book matched and flipped.  This prevents and reflective variance and makes the top more uniform in appearance.

The drawers feature solid maple bottoms, white oak sides and hand cut dovetails.  The pulls are hand carved.  The middle drawer has a removable pencil tray.

I am quite pleased with the way it turned out.  I feel it has a refined, delicate appearance that is perfect for a small study or library.
